A few years back, they bumped into each other behind the machine at Concept Coffee Roasters in Piešťany. Adrian was already a seasoned barista. Nika, besides her passion for drawing, was also cultivating a thing for coffee beans.

They didn't search long for common ground – it actually resulted in three books. Need for espresso underground is a trilogy for the modern barista who likes to ask why.

In it, Adrian writes about water, filters, and modern espresso. Working on the publications launched Nika into the world of professional illustration. Today she draws everything from books through posters to websites, though her heart still stays close to gastro. You can find her work here.

Adrian will serve you modern espresso at Mandla café, though you might also spot him debating water hardness in other Bratislava cafés.

During the summer festival season, don't be surprised if the sound of his guitar catches you off guard in the post-punk band 52 Hertz Whale.
