Simona and Her La Brique et La Violette

Every joke hides a piece of truth. Successful comedian Simona knows this well – she's just wrapped her first stand-up special and a spring tour across Czechia and Slovakia.

Simona has been doing stand-up since she was 17, starting on stage in Žilina and joining Silné reči. She took a break from performing for a while, but her love for theatre and comedy eventually brought her back to the place closest to her heart. Today she's part of the Silné reči crew again, finding huge support and understanding among her male colleagues.

The well-known comedian has tried running her own café, become a mother, and recently married fellow comedian Joe Trendy. Simona has also written a fun debut book for her son – a story about a smelly kingdom where a brave princess decides to change the world. She doesn't hide the fact that she'd love to write a book for adults next, on a more serious topic.

In the stand-up community, success isn't judged by gender but by the quality of your jokes. Preparing for a show is demanding work, though. Comedians have to keep their audience engaged with fresh material. Simona focuses mostly on relationship themes – as one of the few Slovak female comics, she wants to show the other side of the coin. On stage, she's not afraid to take a critical look at relationships between women either. Her big inspiration is American comedian Taylor Tomlinson, who jokes openly about mental health.

La Brique et La Violette

From ZITA, Simona took home two sleek frames from French atelier La Brique et La Violette. From the Minerai collection, she chose glasses in matte pink and a contrasting burgundy.

"I noticed people around me wearing really interesting glasses – Soko, Kristína Tormová. I thought, well, I can't see well either, and I could use a nice frame. ZITA came up from my circles as the optician where you find unusual, almost artistic frames."
