Veronika Kostková, a well-known Slovak designer, our customer, and neighbour, has her finger on the pulse of every wedding season. Earlier this year, she reached out to us for a lovely collaboration. She invited us to her atelier, where together we created a wedding selection tailored just right.

Veronika prepared inspiration for brides-to-be who hesitate to match eyewear with their wedding dress. If you normally wear prescription glasses, there's no reason to set them aside for your wedding. On the contrary, glasses can be a unique piece that completes your wedding day look.

During the shoot, we managed to chat with Veronika about how brides perceive eyewear at weddings. Read the interview where she revealed what wedding trends await us this season and how to approach choosing eyewear.

How did the idea of combining wedding gowns and ZITA eyewear come about?

This idea came from a conversation with brides on Instagram, where they could ask me various questions about weddings. One bride-to-be asked me about glasses, and since I remembered my own personal and very pleasant experience with ZITA, the idea for a collaboration came immediately. While choosing glasses at the optician's for the shoot, I discovered that the bride who had asked me the question had meanwhile started working at ZITA. I consider this whole project our joint creation.

In your experience, do brides usually wear glasses during their wedding?

Most brides reach for contact lenses even though they wear prescription glasses in everyday life. It's a shame, because glasses can be a very beautiful fashion accessory that completes the bridal look and the overall style of the wedding. You just need to reconsider the fact that the glasses you wear to your wedding don't always have to be the same ones you wear in daily life.

Why do you think brides avoid prescription glasses?

Maybe precisely because they see glasses as a medical aid rather than a fashion accessory. During the festive evening, prescription glasses easily transform into jewellery. A bride can shine just as brightly in glasses as with a necklace or earrings. I think some brides see complications in combining them with a veil or make-up. But that can always be worked out.

Do you feel that today's brides are bolder when choosing gowns and accessories, or does tried-and-true classic still prevail?

Slovak brides generally lean more towards tradition. However, since Generation Z – known for breaking rules – is reaching wedding age, women are slowly starting to appear in the wedding sphere who approach marriage differently.

What are this year's wedding trends? What colours dominate in wedding accessories?

This year and next, after a long while, we can expect less lace and more princesses at the altar. Dresses with more dramatic skirts, corsets, and smooth materials are making a comeback. That doesn't mean dresses have to look like a cake. Designers are working with volume without unnecessary boning and heavy materials. As for accessories, bows and 3D flowers are celebrating a return. More extravagant brides can reach for a micro-trend: coloured veils.

What recommendations would you give brides-to-be when choosing wedding eyewear?

I recommend first and foremost matching the style of the wedding dress and the glasses. If the bride has a delicate lace dress, subtle frames in neutral powder or metallic tones will be more suitable. More dramatic dresses call for more inventive shapes and colours of glasses. If brides are planning the increasingly popular small city wedding, I recommend choosing a simpler wedding dress model, a suit, or a jumpsuit combined with glasses in bolder colours. For brides who still don't want to give up contact lenses on the big day, there's the option of choosing sunglasses, which don't necessarily have to be white.

With Veronika, we managed to create a diverse wedding palette of prescription and sunglasses in various shapes and colours. Metal frames from Polish brand Albert I'mStein will appeal to brides who long for a delicate look. For more striking types, we chose elegant burgundy frames from Jean Philippe Joly. If you're planning a sunny wedding, your kit shouldn't be without coloured glasses from Kaleos or an extravagant model from Gamine, with which you'll shine even on the dance floor.
