Soňa belongs to that legendary generation of announcers who were still part of daily television life 20 years ago. These days, the experienced TV and radio presenter is known from the daily women's talk show Dámsky klub. Read on for a conversation about what brings her joy right now and what she loves to wear.
What's keeping you busy these days, and how do you like to spend your free time?
My dog Yama. The older she gets, the more devoted, the gentler she becomes – though also more stubborn. She's been with me for over 12 years now, through good times and bad. Now that her strength is fading, I'm adjusting my schedule to be with her as much as possible. She's not as active anymore, but she's still curious and loves discovering new places with me. So we keep wandering around Bratislava together, just at a slower pace.
Your collection of sunglasses and prescription frames is quite extensive. What makes a frame catch your eye?
I like frames that are striking and slightly extravagant. I say slightly because I'm dependent on prescription glasses, so over the years I've tried all sorts of wild things in various corners of the world – even such bold extravagances that I wouldn't actually wear them for anything. Extravagance has its place in my life, but it also has limits. Even if a frame captivates me, I won't fall for it just because it's a brilliant, extravagant design piece that takes people's breath away. What matters most to me is whether the frame sits well on my face and whether it suits me. And I've managed to collect quite a few such "catches" over the years.
On your social media, you share not just fashion but also thoughts on femininity and naturalness. What does authentic beauty mean to you?
Finding beauty in what's natural, true, and genuine. It doesn't have to meet aesthetic standards of beauty, but it's compelling and powerful in its naturalness and authenticity. Authentic beauty has far greater value than commercial beauty that chases norms. And not just metaphorically – literally too. I'm living through exactly this right now, because for more than two years I've been designing jewelry from natural gemstones, finding beauty even in their imperfections. It's precisely in their authenticity that they hold a value that synthetic, perfect stones lack.
What are you looking forward to in the near future?
I'm really excited about the jewelry website that recently launched. The site bears my name and contains an archive of my work, but you'll also find pieces that are currently available to buy. I don't make the jewelry alone – I select the precious stones and design them. Then the goldsmith and I work out the technical details together, and the result is a piece for a woman who has her own style and likes to complete it with original pieces. Someone who can appreciate both the stone and the value of real jewelry. Especially its timeless and emotional value.

Soňa prefers striking, more extravagant frames. She's tried all sorts of wild things, she says, but when choosing a frame she always considers its wearability. That's perhaps why two Italian-made frames caught her eye at ZITA – reliable in quality yet surprising in shape and material. She's wearing a burgundy model by Monokol and a matte black frame from the Jacques Durand atelier.
